In December 2012, the Provincial Government announced its intention to enhance security measures in elementary schools across Ontario.
Beginning next Monday September 15th, all doors at St. Jacobs School will be locked. Students who are in the portables will have access to a swipe key to allow them easy access in and out of the school.
Parents and guests will need to ring our “doorbell” located at the front door, wait to be recognised via the intercom and closed-circuit TV by the office staff and “buzzed” into the school. You will still be expected to come directly to the office to sign-in. (If you require wheelchair access, you should ring the “wheelchair and delivery “doorbell” located at the parking lot entrance.) Students have been instructed to not open the doors to any adults, including parents and guests that they recognize.
The office hours are 8:30 to 4:00. However, there may be times when the office staff is out of the office for a short period of time. We ask for your patience as you will have to wait until they return. This means that you should give yourself extra time when coming to pick up your child for an appointment. If you require access to the school outside of these hours, please call the school at 519-664-2272.
It is recognized that having all school doors locked will be new for our school community. We appreciate everyone’s support and commitment to keeping our kids safe through the Safe Welcome program.
