The grade 3 students were writing persuasive essays today.  Their thesis is “School is a good place to be….”   Here are two selections:

Rylan writes,

“School is a good place to be because we learn new facts and ideas.  Like when I learned about time.  I learned that you count by 5’s on a clock.  Also people care about you.  Like when my teacher helped me when I had a fight with my best friend.  I really like that friends are there because they help you with work and are fun to play with at recess.  That’s why school is a good place to be. ”

Matthew writes,

“I think school is a good place to be because people care about you.  Like when I sprained my hand, my classmates gave me a get well card or when Alex left we gave him his favourite book and a good bye card.  I also learn new facts and ideas.  I learned that potatoes are stems and some army time (24-hour clock).  My friends are at school.  At recess we always have lots and lots of fun.  If I didn’t have school I wouldn’t have a reason to get out of bed.”

I wanted to publish these gems for  you to read — what great writing form and wonderful ideas.  It made my heart melt!  Mrs. Mathers
