The Marathon of Hope Continues

At St. Jacob’s Public School

-by the reporters in Room 2

On Thursday, September 29, 2016, the students, staff and some parents at St. Jacobs Public School had a Terry Fox Run. We did the run to raise money for cancer research. The day was rainy, cloudy and wet but that didn’t dampen our spirits. We wanted to keep Terry’s dream of beating cancer alive.

First the school walked into the gym class by class for a assembly. Room 2 did a presentation about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. There was a special guest named Mrs. Stayzer. She shared her story about begin a cancer survivor and encouraged us to continue Terry’s Marathon of Hope. Then we watched a video about Terry Fox and the run. We also got a certificate from the Terry Fox Foundation for our years of supporting Terry’s cause.

After the assembly we went outside and got ready and warmed up for the Terry Fox run. Mrs. Weissenboek led us in exercises like jumping jacks, lunges, ad stretches to get us ready for the run. Mrs. Stayzer then led us down to the field with the enormous Canadian flag!

Next we ran around the field in circles as much as we could. The kindies ran in a smaller circle because they are little. Grades 1-3 students ran around the soccer field while the Gr. 4-8 students ran around the school and the field. Students took turns running with the flag. It was windy and wet but that was fine. It was still fun!

After that, the bell rang and that signalled the end of our run.  We went inside and celebrated by eating McIntosh apples. The tasted juicy, yummy, refreshing and sweet!!! We want to thank our Home and School Association for donating the apples!

Finally, the students, teachers and parents of St. Jacobs P.S. were excited to be a part of the Marathon of Hope. It felt awesome to do our part for cancer research. Together we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised more than $1000.00! Thank you for giving to this cause and we hope a cure for cancer will be found soon!
